                 The
 Alethia Foundation asks . . .

Are you weary of hearing the Far Right claim their agenda represents  the Christian view?

Have you noticed that Christian-bashing seems to be the only form of religious bigotry that is "politically correct"?

Does it bother you that the language of Christian piety and the name of Jesus have become objects of disgust due to their association with people who use them ...

  •  to preach mind-closing fear?
  •  to avoid accountability?
  •  to authorize dogmas of intolerance?
  •  to advocate domination and call it leadership?
  •  to manipulate scripture to validate their political agenda?
  •  to ignore injustice and call it unity?
  •  to practice hate and call it love?

These days we hear a lot of harsh, dogmatic voices claiming a unilateral authority –-and often, now as in the past, Christian faith is confused with its noisy perversions.

But there are other voices.

The purpose of The Alethia Foundation is to make those other voices heard.

"Out there" are many thoughtful individuals-- Christians with experience, knowledge and ideas.

Some are...

  •    scholars in the sciences, social sciences, liberal arts
  •    leaders in finance, commerce, technology, medicine
  •    veterans of social work, ministry, counseling, politics
  •    artists, writers, musicians, architects
  •    activists, educators, journalists, parents

"Out there" are also many churches, organizations and groups ushering in new consciousness, social transformation and enlightenment. Some are ...

  •  academic societies studying science and religion
  •  foundations sponsoring interdisciplinary research
  •  congregations working for peace and justice
  •  banking institutions trying microeconomics
  •  visionary companies reforming their workplaces
  •  advocacy groups serving the disenfranchised

The Alethia Foundation works to weave these insights together, demonstrating the many ways recent discoveries can converge within a Christian frame of reference.

The mission of The Alethia Foundation is to bring together elements of a Christian vision for our time. Conceptions of the physical universe, human history and the social order, spiritual realities, even of the human mind itself, have undergone seismic shifts.

We find ancient Christian voices and new scientific resources meeting and making answer to a persistent longing for accord between heart and mind, faith and knowledge.

Extraordinary possibilities lie before us now.

Dimly visible are the contours of a new Christian synthesis

-- one that is very different from the closed system of the religious right wing

BUT ALSO

-- very different from the prejudicial assumptions of a secular postmodern outlook.

We have the opportunity to articulate in a deliberate and conscious way,
a new Christian world view

  •  that is as radical as the gospel in its social ideals
  •  that takes into account dramatic developments in the sciences
  •  that believes in the power of prayer
  •  and that uses a Trinitarian cosmology to unite these elements within a coherent, comprehensive, livable vision of reality.

Alethia is among those who seek to chart a new map by which human beings orient themselves in the world:

Through what kind of lens will we see the universe and ourselves in it?

  •  What will be normative?
  •  What will be taken for granted?
  •  What questions will be "askable"?
  •  By what criteria will we accept new data?
  •  How will we define power? How will we define prosperity?
  •  What assumptions will drive political events?

The Alethia Foundation looks to the doctrinal heart of Christianity, to its confession of the Trinity, of Christ as God’s self-revelation, of the real presence of the Holy Spirit. In this rich, fruitful theology we find the means of bringing into a unified description our  sciences and our ideals for a just and peaceful human society, within a spiritual universe.
